The holiday season at Disney is one of the most magical times of the year to be there. From twinkling and dancing lights covering streets of buildings to a full choir and orchestra performing sentimental holiday favorites that will give you goosebumps. (Plus that castle is pretty nice all decked out in icicle lights too). Here you'll find information on the main events at Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Since it's never too early to start planning, you'll find details and our thoughts on spending New Year's Eve at Disney. Stay tuned for our photos and thoughts of the events this year.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios

November 9, 2012 – January 4, 2013
©DisneyA dazzling display of millions of lights that dance to holiday music. Back on the Streets of America section of Hollywood Studios (right in front of Lights! Motor! Action! area) the buildings down the street are completely covered with lights. About every 10 minutes, they start flickering and flashing to the beat of the holiday music. You'll find all kinds of other decorations on the street, in the air and on the buildings. The lights turn on at "sunset", which is usually around 6pm. Snowflakes even fall from the sky to add an extra touch of holiday spirit.

Our thoughts from previous years: This street becomes unbearably crowded at first lighting. Literally shoulder-to-shoulder, everyone meandering up then down the jam-packed street. We came on a night with 2 showings of Fantasmic and during the time of the first show the Osborne lights area wasn't quite as crowded as it has been in the past. If you've already seen Fantasmic or don't want to, that is an excellent time to come and see the lights.

It's definitely worth seeing, but it's more of an event to see, rather than something you can enjoy on your own time like Epcot's Holidays Around the World. The crowds in early November are much better more manageable than the dates closer to Christmas. It would be nice if you could grab a bench, hot cocoa and just sit and enjoy the atmosphere, but the masses of people make it more of a 'get in, see it, get out' kind of event. Given the slightly more manageable crowds the night we went, we actually were able to spend some time here and really take in some of the detail.

Check out photos over in the gallery, including a creepy police santa.

This event is included with your regular park admission.
