Antioxidant Cocktail

Finlandia Wild Berries vodka, Absolut Berri Acai vodka, pomegranate, lychee and freshly squeezed lemon juice.

After realizing that it's been awhile since we've truly enjoyed the ambiance of a fake fireplace, we stopped by the Ale & Compass lounge after a trip to the much nicer Crew's Cup. The Antioxidant is crisp and refreshing. The sweet berry vodka and muddled pomegranate and lychee fruit balance nicely with plenty of tart lemon juice - which is actually a fairly unusual ingredient in a cocktail, lime? Sure; but lemon? It's just strange enough that it works. Fresh, pulpy and as invigorating as an alcoholic drink can be. We're not sure this cured any ails . . . wait . . . come to think of it . . . I feel fine . . . maybe this is what did it? I'm officially suggesting 1 a day to keep the doctor away.

Backscratcher

It's nice when there's a stand out winner, especially when it's on a menu packed with good stuff to begin with. This tropical vacation in a glass utilizes the caramel flavors of dark rum, sweet passion fruit juice and a splash of Jack Daniel's Bourbon floating on top to make a really unique beverage that's worth the trip to this resort alone (who needs Space Mountain!?) By the way, no discounts if you go sans backscratcher . . . but why would you do something silly like that? Great, now my back's itchy. Anyone got a backscratcher?

Banana Cabana

Cruzan Mango rum, Coruba Coconut rum, Creme de Banana, orange and pineapple juices with a float of grenadine.

Now this is what people think of when they want a tropical drink. The Banana Cabana is sweet with a pronounced banana flavor (which is good, since that's its name) with hints of coconut and mango and a pineapple juice punch. One of the easiest, most tasty and refreshing drinks on Disney's menu, so it's very easy to throw back a few of them (that is until you see the price). If you like tropical drinks we highly recommend this one. It doesn't have an overpowering alcohol taste either, so it's also good for light drinkers.

Ever order a Yellow Bird? This is basically the same cocktail with a different name.

This is a delightful combination of peach tea vodka and lemonade with a sour flavorful punch of blackberry. Different layers of flavor here means one satisfying drink when you crave something a little more unique.

BoardWalk Frozen Margarita

Cherry vodka, Watermelon Pucker, coconut rum, blue curacao and pomegranate syrup. Hmmm, could this be like a bomb pop in a glass?! Nope, it couldn't.

There's nothing here but your typical sour blue raspberry slush, albeit so thick you could make a snow ball out of it, floating on top of some extremely sweet red syrup that again, absolutely refuses to mix with the slush. This place is 2 for 2 for worst margaritas ever - see the Caramel Apple Frozen Margarita review.

The Captain's Mai Tai has a slight nutty flavor thanks to the Amaretto that mixes nicely with the tropical juices. The float of dark rum adds to the complexity with its roasted low notes lending a savory essence that perfectly balances the tropical juices

Caramel Apple Frozen Margarita

Boo Ya Premium Silver tequila, Apple Pucker, caramel syrup and sweet & sour mix.

Sounds interesting, right? Tangy and tart margarita balanced by rich, smooth carmel. It could pair well; what could go wrong?

Here's what: margarita mix from a slush machine that comes out with the consistency of a snow cone that tastes like sour apple pucker floating on top of a layer of sickeningly sweet caramel syrup that absolutely refuses to mix in...no matter how much you stir. With both of these you've literally got to pick which layer you want to try to drink and adjust the depth of the straw correspondingly with each sip. Ugh. One of the worst ever.

Cynar & Soda

If you think you've already had the most unique drink at Disney, you're probably wrong. Order up a Cynar & Soda at Tutto Gusto. Sure, the bartenders will look back at you as in, "Are you sure" but simply say it again, with a "I know what I'm getting" confident tone.

Cynar isn't a liquor for the uninitiated drinker. A strong, bitter first sip with a savory finish, this isn't a drink for the weak. Cynar is an artichoke based liquor, and when mixed with soda water, brings forth a very strong yet moderately bitter flavor (similar to Campari), but finishes with a slightly sweet and savory after taste - and a hint of artichoke. This isn't a cocktail to pound - it's very strong and is best enjoyed slowly. Cynar & Soda definitely takes a few (if not several) sips to get used to, but once you do, you'll realize you just stumbled upon a very special cocktail unlike anything you've had before.
