Where can I buy a drink to take back to the room?

We get a lot of people asking "Where can I buy a bottle of alcohol without paying an arm and a leg?" type questions so we decided to add a quick page with the answers.

So, you'd like a cocktail and don't feel like spending $8 apiece and you're further complicating things by refusing to pay $300 for the bottle of Kahlua from room service too, eh? (Seriously, that's the price at Gaylord Palms!!!)

Don't worry, PTTP's got your back. ABC Liquor is a large southern chain of liquor stores that has nearly unbeatable prices. That means if you see the ABC sign, you can be sure that you'll get a well stocked store and fair prices. Contrastingly, if you're anywhere near a theme park and you see a liquor store without the ABC sign, you can be just about positive you'll be paying way too much. The only exception to this rule is the Wal-Mart Supercenter on 535, which has a good selection of beer and a small liquor store with fair prices. It's also worth mentioning that Wal-Mart is the closest grocery store to Disney and, like any Wal-Mart Supercenter, is a good place to pickup whatever else you might need, from an oil change to a new stroller to a flat screen TV, at a good price.

One more thing, liquor stores are open 7 days a week and generally open until 11pm. This might seem like common sense or may be completely blowing your mind depending on where you're from. Here's a dumb fact to go along with your trip to the liquor store; did you know liquor stores in Minnesota are mandated by law to be closed on Sundays and close at 9pm the other 6 days a week?

Large liquor store with a huge selection of hard liquor, wine and beer. This location also has a walk-in humidor with a wide selection of fine cigars.

In the redesign (7/2011) they've also added a new wine tasting station with eight wines (4 red and 4 white) available for FREE samples of some great wine. If you're in need of some direction in choosing between the hundreds of bottles of wine, ABC even has a Wine Consultant to guide your way. This location's consultant, Arthur, is on a connoisseur level no less than the PTTP people themselves. He can surely help you pair your delicious room service pizza with the perfect liquid partner to wash it down.

There's a Winn Dixie grocery store in this same parking lot but the prices are obscenely high. We don't like companies that gouge tourists, stay away from this Winn Dixie.

Walmart Supercenter

Small liquor store with a limited selection of hard liquor attached to a large grocery store with a pretty good selection of beer and wine. Of course, you'll also find all of the other stuff that any Wal-Mart store would have. 

The Boardwalk
Not a liquor store, but if you are staying at any of the Boardwalk resorts, (Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan, Dolphin, Boardwalk) and just want some beer or wine to take back to your room, stop inside the "Screendoor General Store". You'll be paying a premium for the convenience, but hey, sometimes that's ok.

If you're staying at the Swan or Dolphin, you have a new option available to you called Personal Pantry - the short of it - beer room service for a steal of a price!

A smaller ABC location but still a large selection of hard liqour, wine and beer at a fair price. This is the ONLY place to get a decent price anywhere on I-drive.

How about one more dumb fact while you're here? Liquor stores aren't called liquor stores all over the world. In the United Kingdom and Ireland liquor stores are known as off-license stores (aka "offie"), meaning they have a permit to sell alcohol for off property consumption. In Australia and New Zealand a liquor store is known as a bottle shop or "bottle-o".

Walgreens
While we don't recommend it for the price, there is a Walgreens across the street from Universal Orlando Resort that sells liquor, beer and wine. Their prices aren't completely unreasonable and sometimes convenience is more important than saving a buck or two. Located just north of Universal at the intersection of Kirkman Rd. & Vineland Rd.

Alternate Option - Ship to Your Door
Total Wine & More liquor store in Orlando will ship liquor, beer or wine right to your door. They require an adult aged 21 or older to sign for the delivery or it'll be sent back. Be sure to read the shipping & delivery rules, but if you plan on staying in Orlando for a while, this may be a good option for you.
